Is there a chance i might have eczema?
I have noticed that I've been getting rashes since the 6th grade (I'm 14 now). I've been getting rashes every year since the 6th grade and i get them frequently. My rashes consists of little red itchy bumps and they usually are on my face or arms or near my elbows. I notice that every time i go to my grandmas house i get this rash. I don't know if it is because she has a new house and new carpet or what. I have also noticed that when I'm brushing my teeth and toothpaste gets on my chin i get a rash in that area. Just recently about 3 months ago i have noticed that i have an extremely dry rough patch of scaly skin on my both elbows. Near the patches of dry skin there are little bumps. I noticed right before i got this dry skin i was itching near that spot. The bumps i currently have near my elbows do not itch anymore. Though, i do put lotion on my elbows everyday it does not go away. So is there a chance that i have eczema? My friend had the same symptoms and he says i do.
It sounds like you have either 'atopic dermatitis' or 'eczema'. Putting the lotion on is important, you don't want your skin to get dry or the eczema gets worse. You may also want to try something like Cortaid maximum strength as cortisone creams can help a lot in getting eczema to get better. Try to stay away from all soaps, laundry detergents, lotions that have perfumes in them. I work at a derm office and they recommend using Dove for sensitive skin or Cetaphil wash for cleansing your skin, Cetaphil lotion or cream for moisturization, apply a cortisone cream twice a day, and take Zyrtec or Allegra an antihistamine to help with the itching. Use a Free and Clear laundry detergent and do not use dryer sheets. There must be something at your grandma's house that makes it flare, so be careful what products you use over there. Elbows and knees are hot spots for eczema to show up. If you feel it is too much for you, see if your mom will take you to the doctor or a dermatologist for a prescription, usually Triamcinolone cream is what they give you and it works great. Hopes this helps!!
