How will the first meeting go ? What will she ask ? What should I wear ? It's at 9 AM. That's so early, I have trouble just getting out of bed..now I'll have to get out of bed early, go in the shower, do my hair, get dressed..just to go see her..how fantastic. What should I wear and what to expect ?
Wear something you are comfortable in and will feel good about yourself wearing. The doctor will not make judgments based on your appearance. He/she will ask you about yourself. Do not be nervous, relax, speak thoughtfully and honestly. You are going to a psychiatrist for help in feeling better about yourself and improving your life. The more you are open and help the doctor understand how he/she will be able to help you, the more they will be able to.
Wear whatever you want. They really could care less how you look. Basically, you tell them why you're there, how you are feeling, they ask you some questions (like about your symptoms), you answer as best you can, and if possible they give you a diagnosis and you get a prescription if needed. And that's about it. Don't sweat it, it's nothing to get worked up about.
When I first saw my psychatrist I didn't know what to expect either and I was a bit nervous.
First she will ask you what brought you in today. (your symptoms);
She will ask you about your life up until this point (your history and family history);
She will ask about any medicines you are own presently
Wear whatever makes you comfortable and BE YOURSELF. Being yourself will allow her to get an accurate picture of what's going on with you and how she can better help you.
Set 2 or 3 alarm devices all away from your bed but close enough to hear it so you'll have to get-up to turn it off. After doing that for 3 or 4 times you'll definitely be awake.
Also you need to write down your symptoms so you won't forget anything. It's a new experience and you may forget a few things.
I am so proud of you for seeking help!
it completely depends on why you are there to what they will ask.
but usually, on first meeting they will just try to get to know you and maybe your issue a bit better. then before the next session they will plan out how to work with you.
dont worry about what to wear - the physciatrist isnt going to care. i mean, obviously look clean and tidy but theres no need to go smart or anything. just make a good impression of what you re normally like.
